FX Maverick Rapid Fire Test-Does the PoI Drop as the Dual Regulators Refill During Rapid Fire

One question I’ve seen posted over and over asks if there is a drop in point of impact (PoI) when shooting the FX Maverick quickly, as in a speed silhouette competition.

The question seems to be prompted by review videos where the refilling of the Maverick’s plenum space by the dual regulators can be heard. For the record, I can verify that the Impact and Dreamline (with the Power Plenum installed) make the same “breathing” noise as the plenum space is refilled, but the arrival of a new design with two regulators has evoked suspicion.

This video aims to answer the question. I’ve shot a 10 pellet group in under 30 seconds, that’s an average of under 3 seconds per shot for those of you who aren’t fond of the maths. That was as fast as I could go while maintaining some semblance of accuracy, and I think the video answers the question.

My goal was to shoot fast enough to stress the regulators as they work to keep the plenums full, but not shoot so fast that my inability to maintain a consistent point of aim became a factor in the test. Most of the questions I saw online framed the question around a rate of fire between 3 and 4 seconds between shots, so I set my pace at 10 shots in 30 seconds.

For this test my Maverick was shooting JSB Hades in .22 cal at 904 FPS.
