July 17th 2017 How to hunt big game with an airgun.... in this segment Jim takes the Ataman .30 caliber pcp air rifle into the field after one of his favorite small antelope, the springbuck. After spotting several groups on the side of a sprawling areacovered in thorn-bush and invasive cactus, Jim and Andrew set up a stalk, only to get pinned down in a small cluster of vegetation. A small herd that had run by and held up at about 200 yards away, started moving back at a slower trot. I thought they were going to pass, when a few animals in the rear stopped momentarily. I had the Ataman M2 on sticks, and shifted the cross-hairs for a lung shot.......and nailed it. The springbuck did a jump and kick, ran a short distance, and piled up. He was dead on walkup ...... as you see, I got a bit of a shock when I looked down and found myself standing on a cobra shed! The Ataman M2 performed very well, with great accuracy and enough power to cleanly kill this antelope. The .30 caliber (with respect to a gun shooting pellets) is a solid choice for a multi species gun that is appropriate for small game up to the middle sized quarry. The platform worked great for me, and I think this would be an outstanding choice for a predator gun..... but that's my next trip!
